EL PUERTO DE SANTA MARIA
Legend says it was founded by the Athenian leader Menstheo, after the Trojan war, in the year 711, the city fell under Arab rule before being conquered by Alfonso 10th. This king named the town "Santa MarÃa del Puerto". During the years to the discovery of America the city developed spectacularly and became very important both economically and culturally. The resulting historical and architectural heritage has survived the passage of time and remains today.
